Fodor's Expert Review
Overhauled a few years ago, the Am Stephansplatz is an oasis of calm in the middle of the busiest square in Austria. It's rather bland facade is in homage to the majesty of the Gothic St. Stephen's Cathedral, which sits directly across from it.
Tip For nearly 1,000 years, Stephansplatz is has been a thriving square filled with people. Request a room on a higher floor to get a quieter space.

The rooms are designed to be tranquil, which can offset the bustling vibe on the square below. All have light, hardwood floors, and warm, buttery or beige walls. Furnishings are elegantly simple and contemporary. Some rooms have views directly onto the Cathedral, which is so close you feel like you can reach out and touch it. Suites on higher floors include a terrace with a spectacular Cathedral view. The windows are triple-glazed to keep out the noise. There is a coffee and tea maker in eavery room, and all are air-conditioned, not always the case in this Old World city.
