When to Go

The temperate climate of the mountainous central zone makes it a pleasure to visit year-round, and outdoor activities abound in any season. Locals especially like to head up to this area in summer, when Aibonito holds its Flower Festival (late June or July) and Barranquitas hosts its Artisans Fair (July), but there are fun, local festivals taking place nearly every month. They celebrate everything from handmade lace to coffee. It gets hot in August and September, but north coast beaches help everyone stay cool. Note that during busy times some hotels require a minimum two- or three-night stay on weekends.
