Fodor's Expert Review Das Alpen
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Granted, it's not traditional Puerto Rican fare nor does it have anything to do with the local culture, but the authentic German food at this restaurant will make you feel as if you're on a vacation from your vacation. Everything is homemade, including the bratwurst (sausage), sauerbraten (beef marinated in red wine), and kasseler rippchen (smoked pork chops). All the classics are served with red cabbage, or spätzle. The schnitzels (there are two types) are ridiculously flavorful, and there are plenty of imported beers to wash down the goodness. As much as locals love the German cuisine, they also come for the Italian dishes like pumpkin ravioli or cannelloni al forno. Of course a meal wouldn't be complete without hot apple strudel. If you happen to be in Rincón during the month of October, Das Alpen celebrates Oktoberfest. Brunch is served on Sundays.
