St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort Golf Course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., this tranquil 18-hole course meanders alongside the island's Río Espíritu Santo and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Environmentally respectful (it boasts a golden certification from Audubon International), this challenging course traipses past scenic lakes, deep-rooted mangroves, and spectacular residences, blending into the area's rain-forest surroundings, while ocean breezes add a degree of difficulty to lush, rolling fairways. Greens fees vary seasonally; rates and times are available on request. Rte. 187, Km 4.2, Río Grande, n/a Puerto Rico, 00745. 787/957–1510; www.stregisbahiabeach.com. From $165.

The Wyndham Grand Río Mar Beach Resort & Spa. The Río Mar Country Club portion of the resort features two of the region’s more luxurious golf courses. The Ocean Course, designed by Tom and George Fazio, has slightly wider fairways than its sister course. Iguanas can usually be spotted sunning themselves near the 4th hole, but contrary to its name it has only one isolated ocean hole: the par-three 16th. River Course, designed by Greg Norman, has challenging fairways that skirt the Mameyes River. Either way, at the end of a round you can enjoy the spacious modern clubhouse with a pro-shop and two restaurants where you can grab a sit-down lunch or a quick beverage and a bite. If you're not a resort guest, be sure to reserve tee times at least 24 hours in advance. Fees include discounts for resort guests and twilight times with club and shoe rentals available. 6000 Río Mar Blvd., Río Grande, n/a Puerto Rico, 00745. 787/888–6000; www.wyndhamriomar.com. 9 holes from $130; 18 holes from $195.
