Fodor's Expert Review Cadbury World

Dunedin Other Attraction

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Which came first, the Cadbury factory or the Cadbury Creme Egg? At Cadbury World you can watch chocolate candy in the making—and stand back as one ton of liquid chocolate gushes past you. Kiwis from as far away as Stewart Island have memories of school field trips here and ensuing tummy aches (the tour includes free samples of candy). Weekday tours include the factory; shorter weekend tours do not. This is a family-friendly place, but for safety reasons under-fives cannot be carried during tours unless you have a strap-on baby carrier and little kids may find all the steps—about 200 of them—challenging. The factory is usually closed for a week in June for maintenance.
