Why We Like It

The location is clearly the main selling point here with the park across the street, easy access to public transit and walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and bars. But the hotel itself (despite its age) provides an array of modern amenities with top-notch restaurants and a world-class spa. There’s a little something for everyone here (including a driving range!) and its ideal for anyone wanting to see more of the city in a quick and convenient way.

Fodor's Expert Review

Even though the hotel is nearly 50 years old, the 517-room giant doesn’t lack in modern amenities. Here, you’ll find nine food & beverage options, a state-of-the art gym, an award-winning spa, and even a driving range! Ideally located next to Lumphini Park and within walking access to both the MRT Subway and BTS Skytrain, the hotel gives guests every opportunity possible to explore the city with ease.

Room

The best room options are those that overlook Lumphini Park. Accommodations are very spacious with comfy beds, free daily fruit, complimentary water, tea, and coffee, and Juliet balconies.

Bathroom

Simple bathrooms come with separate showers and bathtubs and a large window facing the bed. Don’t worry though--you can close the blinds if you don’t want your significant other spying on you.

Lobby

The colonnaded lobby sinks one floor down where guests can relax next to a glass-encased waterfall and koi pond surrounded by trees.

Pool

The resort-like pool is surrounded by the hotel’s towers and balcony-laden suites. Blue lounge chairs line the sides and a pool bar offers guests food and drinks throughout the day.

Tip There’s often a pool promotion with a cocktail of the month or beer buckets on the cheap.

Spa

The absolutely stunning entrance to the spa is a peaceful walkway along a river of water. Inside, there are 14 treatment rooms with everything from traditional Thai massage and body wraps to facials and scrubs.

Gym

The DFiT Fitness Centre has an array of Cybex cardio machines and free weights. There’s an aerobics studio as well, but sadly no classes. For a competitive workout, check out the squash courts.

Tip Golf fanatics should rejoice. On the roof of the hotel is a driving range! You can borrow clubs in case you left yours at home.

Dining

There are nine dining options in the hotel, but for the best food, check out The Mayflower, which is known citywide for its Chinese delicacies. Additionally, you can find a Japanese restaurant, Vietnamese, a steakhouse, sandwich and pastry shop, and pub food.

Tip The Lobby Lounge hosts an afternoon tea from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day.

Drinking

22 Kitchen & Bar is the hotel’s popular watering hole with great burgers and tall pints.

Getting Around

Dusit Thani is in a really great spot. It’s next to Bangkok’s best park. It’s practically on top of a subway station and it’s only a few minutes’ walk from the nearest Skytrain station. In fact, the best part of this area is its easy access to both the MRT subway and BTS Skytrain. But, if walking is more your thing, you’re only a few minutes away from the bustling Silom area. Cabs are easy to flag down in this part of town as well. The area itself has dozens of great restaurants, bars, and markets, and also one of Bangkok’s wildest red-light districts at Patpong.

Restaurants

Eat Me (5-minute walk) is both a gallery and restaurant with an international menu that’s inventive and delicious. One of the best restaurants in the world is Nahm (10-minute walk) inside the COMO Metropolitan with mouthwatering Thai food unlike you’ve ever tasted.

Bars

Martini lovers should definitely check out Vesper Cocktail Bar & Restaurant (5-minute walk). If you want your jaw to drop, head down to Vertigo (10-minute walk) at the Banyan Tree hotel and indulge in craft cocktails and vertigo inducing views.
