Why We Like It

You’ll like it way more post-renovation, but even still, the hotel is a sweet spot in a very cool neighborhood. The rooms are really comfortable, spacious, and come with great amenities. The pool, while small, is still a spectacular place for a drink and sunset views. Attached to the hotel is a mall, and the surrounding area has some of the best restaurants and bars in the city. Chic, sleek, and with a high-end level of service, Akyra will be a favorite of millennials for years to come.

Fodor's Expert Review

Though the hotel is in the middle of a massive renovation project, don’t let this deter you from staying as the property and surrounding area has slowly become one of the hippest in town. Modern design features can be seen throughout the hotel, and once it’s finished, a chic restaurant and bar will only add to the neighborhood’s appeal. Outside the hotel, guests will be delighted to discover dozens of the most innovative bars and restaurants, as well as great shopping up and down the street.

Room

Newly-designed accommodations feature plush purple headboards, hardwood floors, contemporary art and furniture, and an edgy vibe. Many of the rooms come with kitchenettes and suites are equipped with full kitchens, in-room washing/drying machines, and large balconies that look over the surrounding streets. Water, fruit, coffee/tea, are all complimentary.

Tip Because of the size of the rooms, in addition to in-room amenities, the hotel is ideal for long-term stays.

Bathroom

Slick bathrooms have marble countertops and a varying arrangement of standalone tubs and shower/tub combos.

Lobby

The quiet lobby isn’t much of a hangout--it serves more as a waiting area for the free shuttle to the BTS Skytrain station down the road. Upon arrival, guests are given a welcome drink and cold towels on especially hot days.

Tip Attached to the hotel is Eight Thonglor Mall with an array of chichi restaurants and boutiques. There’s also a supermarket that’s open 24/7.

Pool

A small infinity pool offers up great views of the city and is open late. There’s a pool bar where you can get small bites and cold drinks throughout the day.

Gym

The minimal gym has hardwood floors, is open 24/7, and has Life Fitness machines. There are no classes here, but enough to get a decent workout.

Dining

Post-renovation, the hotel will offer up a chic Thai-fusion restaurant. Currently, there’s a breakfast buffet with international cuisine options.

Drinking

Like the restaurant, the post-renovation bar will be by the pool and give guests any number of signature cocktails.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Thonglor is one of the coolest spots in town. Though it’s a little far east of many attractions, the area has quickly become a hotbed of high-end restaurants, creative cocktail spots, boutique shopping, and more. It’s a bit of a hike to the nearest public transportation, but the hotel provides a free shuttle to the BTS. The streets here are busy, so it’s never difficult to find a taxi. Luckily, you’re within walking distance to a bevy of award-winning restaurants and great bars.

Restaurants

Bo.Lan (10-minute walk) is a must-eat for some of the most innovative Thai food in Bangkok. A bit on the trendy side, check out Little Beast (7-minute walk) for tapas and small plates. For mouthwatering Japanese, check out Kitaohji (3-minute walk), and feast on fresh fish and wagyu beef.

Bars

The Iron Fairies (4-minute walk) is a quirky locals favorite with great cocktails and live jazz. Arguably the best view in the city, Octave Rooftop Bar (10-minute walk) is at the top of the Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit and has 360-degree vistas that are not for anyone who might be afraid of heights.
