Fodor's Expert Review Carcosa Seri Negara

Persiaran Mahameru, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur, 50480, Malaysia

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

More than 40 acres of perfectly manicured gardens surround this iconic heritage mansion, built in 1897 as a residence for the British High Commissioner. Designed in a fusion of neo-gothic and Tudor styles, the building became a small luxury hotel in 1989—Queen Elizabeth II graced the mansion with a visit that year. The five stately suites contain colonial four-poster beds, historical paintings, and private bars. Overnight stays include butler service, breakfast, and a three-course modern Malay dinner. Daytime guests often come to visit the Drawing Room for traditional English or Malay afternoon tea. Crystal chandeliers, stately columns, and crown molding provide the perfect backdrop, as does the outdoor wraparound verandah, overlooking the beautiful gardens.
