Fodor's Expert Review Aquavit

$$$$ Harajuku Prix-Fixe

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

One of a handful of authentic Swedish restaurants in Tokyo, Aquavit serves a reasonably priced prix-fixe lunch and dinner. A great introduction to the cuisine is the herring sampler, which includes pickled and sweet varieties that change seasonally. Entrées like the dry-cured gravlax or the foie gras with shallot marmalade, fig, and elderflower continue the Scandinavian theme. But don't ask for the tab before sampling dessert in the form of scrumptious Swedish pancakes served with ginger confit, fresh cream, and raspberries. The romantic dining room manages to be both inviting and modern, thanks to design and furniture by Fritz Hansen of Denmark.
