Perched on the Braamfontein Ridge, Parktown was once the address du jour for the city's early mining magnates. Most of the magnificent houses have since met their demise, but those that are left are worth a look, and they are all lovely areas in which to stay or to take a walk. The small but picturesque suburbs of Westcliff, Parkview, and Saxonwold are nearby.
