Fodor's Expert Review Abdu Hadayag
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Neighborhood lore says that this eatery's namesake was a fisherman in his early years (hadayag is Hebrew for "the fisherman"). His simple establishment has long been a fixture of Jaffa's main street. The fishing nets, lanterns, and other marine accoutrements are refreshingly down-to-earth in a city where the interior design of restaurants has sometimes become as important as the menu. The favorites here include grouper, red snapper, gray mullet, and mackerel, as well as melita, an Israeli fish in the barracuda family. Like many restaurants in Jaffa, a huge selection of small dishes or mezes are included in the main dish price.
