We leave for Portugal in about two weeks. We have reservations in the Douro River Valley at Visconde Chanceleiros for two nights. we plan to take the train to Pinhao arriving midday. Thinking about having lunch in town or at A Quinta nearby before making our way to our accommodation. Would love suggestions for lunch and what we might do the next Day. Mainly interested in scenery or nearby towns.

Lunch in Pinhão upon arrival and walkable from the train station could be at the casual Veladouro down by the pier and near the LB; we at lunch there several times during our stay, as the prices were very reasonable, and it has a nice wine selection.

Or for something more "gourmet" with great wines produced by this estate (and pricier) you could taxi the short distance (1.5 km) to the Quinta de la Rosa to their Cozinha da Clara restaurant facing the river with outdoor terrace. It receives a 9.1 rating on The Fork.

The Quinta do Bomfim (Symington Estates), which is walkable, has a very stylish, high-end gourmet restaurant supervised by Michelin-starred chef Pedro Lemos,
the Bomfim 1896 Pedro Lemos, but it's much more expensive. It receives a 9.6 rating on The Fork.

We didn't find the dining, lunch or dinner, at the Vintage House Hotel to be particularly memorable (except for their plentiful buffet breakfasts). We preferred the other options in town.

If you're planning to have dinner at Chanceleiros, be sure to save room! We stayed three nights in March and had the four-course dinner there every night. We tended to just have tasting snacks or something small for lunch. I would imagine Quinta de la Rosa has a nice setting - we drove by it every day. For scenery, we took a one-hour ride on the river from Pinhão, and for nearby towns we enjoyed Lamego, but we had a car. Adelaide at Chanceleiros booked a two-hour private tour and tasting for us at Quinta do Infantado, which is short walk. I have a trip report/photos here, in case it provides any ideas. Have a great time, and give Lily and Rosie (the bulldogs) a scratch from us!

Agree with Maribel about Veladouro and about the food at the Vintage House. We spent three nights at the Vintage House and didn't care for our meal there.

We had a nice late afternoon wine and cheese platter at Cozinha de Clara, which was excellent. Great views of the river as stated by Maribel - we walked to it from Pinhao.
