Three days in Halifax

Three days in Halifax
Good morning
Contemplating a trip to Nova Scotia and PEI.
I would have 11 days on the ground (not including the days to travel to and from Halifax - these are true on the ground days - it would be 13 if you include in and out travel days).
Out of 11 total full days, is three days in Halifax the "right amount" to apportion? I would only get the car on my way to leave Halifax, no vehicle while in Halifax.

I think three full days would be ample, and if you discover that you want to spend more time elsewhere, such as on PEI, you could reduce it to two and still get a good sense of what the city has to offer.
Halifax is quite compact and walkable, although you will encounter steep hills if you want to go up to the Citadel or Spring Garden Road. One of the most interesting and picturesque walks is along the waterfront; there is a beautiful boardwalk running from the casino in the north to Pier 21 in the south. The boardwalk is lined with interesting shops and various restaurants, all very enjoyable on a sunny day or a warm evening. Another great walk is around Point Pleasant Park, which projects out into the approaches to Halifax Harbour. There are three museums on or near the waterfront: the Maritime Museum, the Immigration Museum at Pier 21 (where my wife landed when she emigrated from Poland as a child), and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, with its lovely Maud Lewis treasures. The latter is unfortunately closed for maintenance, with no indication of when it will re-open. And then there is always the pleasure of a ferry ride across the harbour to Dartmouth, with again the opportunity to walk along part of the Dartmouth waterfront. (Be sure to take the ferry to Alderney Landing, rather than to the more distant Woodside.)
I would recommend you stay right downtown, as there are lots of hotel options and some good restaurants to choose from.

Did you see this post on PEI? I provided a lot of information on PEI, review and let us know what more information you need. 3-5 days on the island will give you a feel for the place.
Halifax and PEI
Everything is open mid June through August on PEI. Each week in September some tourist businesses outside of Charlottetown will start to close. Most business in Cavendish are closed by the 1st to 3rd week in September. By the end of October many tourist businesses outside of Charlottetown, Summerside, etc are closed. Always check websites or call to individual business you plan to visit to check operating hours.
Do not misunderstand me business do stay open for most of the year since the island has 170 k population. But the business that tourist go to will close as summer help returns to school and foreign works go home.
PEI has friendly locals, amazing seafood ie lobster, muscles, oysters, cod, not crowded even in the summer. Endless red sand beaches and cliffs, amazing folk music, green potato fields, bike and walking trails the entire length of the island, warm water via the Gulf Steam to swim in the ocean. Anne of Green Gables if you have kids. You can get onto the island via a 8 mile long bridge or a 2 hour ferry from Nova Scotia. The largest city is Charlottetown about 50 k population with an island population of 170k. But get out and explore the countryside it’s amazing.
Please give us a bit more information on what your interests are ie. seafood , scenery, hiking, history, music, nature, beaches, etc. And whether you are adults, a family with children, etc.

Thank you so much! I will peruse this! I was hoping to do this in July, but I better get cracking. I am currently thinking 10 nights, maybe 9 nights, total, which would be Halifax and PEI and whatever else I can fit in between without making it a marathon.

Halifax is definitely hilly and our hotel was at the top of a big one. It was only a few blocks to the waterfront though and close to Citadel Hill so good location. On our way home daily we stopped at Durty Nelly’s Irish Bar which was a fun place.
I really enjoyed the water front and Pier 21 was interesting. One of the women in our group had come through as a young girl.
Lots of history there. I would take a city tour instead of just walking around. I was there on a bus tour for 12 days and loved it all.
