I have heard Mull is lovely. We are spoilt for choice living in the north with the lakes and Scotland on our doorstep. Just got back from Penrith courtesy of friends in their wonderful static, its got us thinking about getting one.

The flights to Staniel Cay were just becoming silly. Eight flights for a two week break is approaching insanity.
All we wanted to was snorkel with "anything".
Strangely enough both islands have incredibly clear sea, stunning beaches and are dripping with wildlife. The upside of Mull is we are saving £9,000 - the downside being that the danger of icebergs in June but we have always wanted to snorkel with basking sharks. We know where a friendly colony of grey seal hang out too!
The CamperVan will avoid having to back track to a cottage each day as the roads are hard work. Can't wait to get a barbecue going on the shores of Loch Na Keal.
BTW none of us have ever camped before...mmmmm.
Steve : where did you stay?

"I'm embarrassed to say I had to google Exumas look beautiful."
Looks can deceive.
We spent new year there (on Great Exuma, and maybe others are nicer) yonks ago. Lovely people, truly awful food (conch burger is the only alternative to reheated frozen dinners) exceptionally mediocre snorkelling and downright bad diving, adequate local music (though not up to what beats out from every record shop in Notting Hill), very boring countryside, beaches, seascapes and underwater landscape.
The high point was an NYE watch night service in the church opposite the hotel - for which the night's bop was suspended while the entire band, and half the audience, went off to worship. The church reeked of more booze than there used to be for Liverpool Midnight Masses in the 50's.
And infinitely more ganga. In Liverpool, the Canon used to be well oiled. The minister on Great Exuma was more stoned than the band leader.

There -- aren't you glad you chose Mull??
Used to camp when I was a kid, but never in a caravan. Years ago my ex, Airedale, Scottie, and moi rented a VW camper van. Didn't take it on any of the islands but on a huge loop around far northern Scotland . . . and LOVED every minute of it.
Enjoy.

Truly awful food.
There's another deciding factor.
I remember having a so called "Mexican meal" on Treasure Cay beach two years ago. The view from the restaurant :

Mexican turned out to be Golden Wonder crisps with Kraft cheese slices (unmelted). AND THEY ASKED FOR A TIP!
Just remembered I have camped once, on a lads cycling tour round The Lakes aged 17. We got very tanked forgot to put the pegs in, I rolled out of the tent during the night and was woken by a cow licking my face.
Bad form on the camping front.

I didn't know where Exuma was either so you're in good/bad company jj.

In that campervan, you're not exactly going to be slumming it, are you, Dickie?

Most people in Britain know Nassau in The Bahamas it is fairly awful with Sean Connery and all. Just lots of huge AI resorts. There are around 800 other islands to explore many are outrageously beautiful.
The CamperVan has hot running water, so yes probably not slumming it.
