We are looking at an apartment that is described as " rue vieille du Temple, closest corner is rue du roi de sicile- right between Saint-Paul and Hoye de Ville metro stations". We want to be very close to metro for touristy travel and would love to be able to find a market/cafe of two within a couple of blocks. For those that know the city well, could you tell us if this is a good location for us? Thanks.

This location is in Le Marais and is in a very central location with lots of places to eat within walking distance. Just look at it on Google maps and you will see that. Street noise could be an issue because Rue de RIvoli is a busy street.

sure, it's fine, do you know how to look on a map and see how close it is to a metro stop? There are cafes and markets all over central Paris. That apt. is very close to rue des Rosiers, which is popular with tourists, of course that whole area is very dense with tourists so I would consider the situation of the apt (floor, which direction it views, type of window, etc.). It's about 3 blocks from a metro stop, both are the same metro line, though, and there are some buses that go along rue de Rivoli. That apt is very close to the hotel Caron de Beaumarchais, actually, if you want to read reviews of that hotel somewhere, people will discuss location. It isn't quiet, and the streets are narrow.

That is a very dense business and tourist and shops area, though, so you won't get a big grand supermarket like you will in more residential areas. There is a Franprix supermarket about 2 blocks away at 27 rue du Bourg Tibourg which should suit tourist needs, and a small market with limited products at 34, rue de Rivoli, but has the basics (Intermarche Express).

There is a legal apart'hotel very near the location you mentioned.
It's about 2 years old, so will have double-glazed windows and a dependable elevator, as well as a 24/7 front desk staff who will let you drop your luggage if your room isn't ready when you arrive. It's much nicer than the typical Parisian apartment and has everything you need:

If this is the apartment listed on AirBnB, have you looked at the damage deposit? No way I would pay 500 EU, plus a cleaning fee of 35 EU.
You won't be able to access the apartment or drop your luggage until 2 PM - what will you do if you arrive before then?

Frankly, I'd go with the apart'hotel I mentioned, which doesn't include the ridiculous damage deposit.

I'd look on www.booking.com or other discount websites before booking, then contact the hotel directly to confirm the price.

For purposes of renting private apartments in Paris these days, a good location is a bad location. Which to say, out of the center, where it's been said, the crackdowns on illegal rentals are beginning.

Nobody is certain which arrondissements will be targeted next.
Currently 600 apts are being visited in the 1eme, 2eme and parts of the 8eme.
